Dental Implants – The Perfect Solution for Missing Teeth

We have a number of ways to replace missing teeth such as the fitting of dentures or bridge work, but dental implants are the most effective way and dental implants are the recommended tooth replacement solution of choice.

  • Dental Implants – Dental implants offer a permanent solution for your missing teeth. A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root and commonly it is screw or cylinder shaped. Conventional Dental Implants

    1st Stage     The dentist will make a tiny incision in your gum in order to access your jawbone. Dr Kazem will then drill a small hole in this bone before inserting the implant. The incision is closed and given time to heal. This is usually a period of 3 to 6 months. After the healing period, the gum is again lifted and a post is attached to the implant with a temporary crown.  .

    2nd Stage     When the surrounding gum tissue has matured, the final permanent restoration can be fitted to the implant.
    Dr Kazem will open up the original wound before fixing a small attachment or abutment to the implant. This will enable him to fasten an artificial tooth or restoration to the abutment.
    This is usually done in two stages although there is the option of having this done all in one go, known as ‘immediate loading.

Dental implants are placed in our Dental Practice by surgically implanting titanium implants into the jawbone. These implants function like natural tooth roots. After sufficient time has passed to allow the implants to bond and fuse with the surrounding bone and gum tissue, studs are secured to the implants. Natural-looking crowns, bridges, dentures can then be attached to the implants.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants can be placed in patients of any age provided that they have a sufficient quantity and quality of bone tissue available. Most healthy individuals that maintain a good oral hygiene program are suitable candidates for dental implants. Heavy smokers and drinkers who wish to have dental implants and these people will be advised to quit or cut down before dental implants can be fitted as tobacco and alcohol interferes with the dental implant healing process.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

Dental implants should last a lifetime if normal dental hygiene is practiced. Simple good practice of cleaning the teeth, flossing and dental check ups should ensure that the dental implant will last as long as a natural tooth.

Bone Grafting for Implant Placement

When the jawbone lacks sufficient depth to hold the implants in place bone grafting is necessary. This means taking bone from one area of the body or a ‘donor site’ before grafting it into the jawbone. This is done to increase the width and depth of the bone.This bone is taken from either the chin or the hip.

The dentist will build up the ridge of the jawbone before inserting the implant. There are 4 types of grafts available although the autogenous or allograft is the most popular choice of graft. The graft is held in place by tacks and a barrier membrane. Once the graft has taken place the site is ready for the implants. These are inserted in the normal manner.
Sinus Graft
The Sinus Lift is a technique of raising the Sinus Lining so that there is sufficient space to augmentation additional bone that will help support the Dental Implants.
